Race Report 17th July 2011
The 44km Dungarubba circuit was the venue for last weekends local cycling racing. With good fields in attendance, the minefield of potholes,Marom Crk Mountain and the occasional spooked loose bullock to contend with, all grades had good close tussles. In C grade,Jason Sipple attacked on the KOM to establish what he thought was a winning lead but "comeback king" Hal Holley had other ideas. Hal clawed his way back along the flats and proved too strong on the run to the line, Suzanna Turner not far off in 3rd B grade, who started just 2 minutes in front of A grade, weren't listening to the starter and were under the false impression that it was a handicap race. Seems being hard of hearing, melded them into a hard working engine room, and not that the B's would have heard it anyway, A grade didn't come within a COOWEE of catching them. In a six-up sprint Matt Slee edged out Darryl Pursey and Mike Stanger. A grade proved to be a stop/start affair with Brendon Cole and Tim Davis dishing out plenty of pain with attacks in the hills only to be consistantly pulled back by Lenox's tireless Luke "ironman" Harrison In the run to the line, all money was safe on "The Coletrain" but Graeme Turner almost outmanouvered his more fancied rivals when he cunningly dropped off the bunch and came with a stealth like run 500m from home only to be collared near the line with Tim Davis 3rd.
