Ophthalmology Registrar, rotated end of 2025
Favourite loop:
Hands down the Eltham pain train on a Thursday morning. It's a 50km ride, with the first 15km as moderate warm up in a big group. You then split into fast and slow groups, and the fast chop group is an absolute smash fest averaging up to 40km/h.
Putting in big efforts and suffering with my mates was so much fun that it was routinely the highlight of my week. Debrief coffee and pastries after was almost mandatory.
Great places:
Dunoon road north of town is one of the most stunning roads I have ever ridden in my life, winding through rainforest and gorgeous countryside. NRCC regularly does rides there.
In town, there is a place called Japanese Kitchen Little Tokyo which annoyingly is only open for lunch four days a week, but if you can get there they have a simply delicious salmon donburi bowl.
Reflecting on my time with NRCC:
I spent three months in Lismore as a part of my ophthalmology training. Joining the cycling club was a great decision and an absolute highlight of my time. It's a well organised club with regular rides for all speeds and skill levels, and everyone is very friendly and welcoming.
I would recommend it wholeheartedly for anyone rotating through the health service.
